The video talked about the breaking down of glucose and how photosynthesis works. It also explains why plants have mitochondria and chloroplasts. The video talked about atp as a common currency for cells, and glucose as something useful
Leaves on deciduous trees change because of photosynthesis starting and stoping. In the fall, many types of trees have their leaves change because they photosynthesis shuts down, and the chlorophyll disappears from the leaves. The colors left behind were underneath all along, but could not be seen because of the more dominant chlorophyll. Some trees have their leaves change colors because of wastes left in the leaves such as oaks. The leaves turn back to green in spring because photosynthesis starts up again.
The science in GATTACA is somewhat realistic. As of right now, we do not know a lot about what some parts of our DNA can say. The technology in the movie such as rocket ships, computers, and other things are all realistic. The ability for sperm and eggs to be fused outside of a female and in a petri dish is a reality in society today. We cannot control the way people are born. This would take enormous amounts of work to find the sperm with the "best" genetics. Also, machines cannot read DNA in our world and tell you life expectancy. These
When you eat a steak, your body uses the protein to rebuild muscles. When you eat a candy, your body get sugar right away, which is easier to use for the making of ATP. Although the sugar may not last as long as the steak, it is already in sucrose, a similar molecule to glucose. Steaks are made up of other molecules. You body needs to digest and extract the nutrients from a steak before it can be used for energy. After eating a steak your body will typically last longer because a steak contains more energy and nutrients that a candy. A candy only gives you a small amount of energy for a very short time. The sucrose in candy also increases insulin, which results in a temporary insulin crash later, requiring more candy to keep insulin normal. The insulin crash is very bad for you body's energy.
